Karachi, Pakistan’s largest city and economic hub, faces mounting environmental challenges exacerbated by rapid urbanization, climate change, and population growth. The city has seen a dramatic decline in green cover due to unchecked development, leading to increased urban heat, poor air quality, and reduced biodiversity. According to WWF-Pakistan, Karachi’s green space per capita is significantly below WHO’s recommended levels, with many public spaces either neglected or encroached upon. Simultaneously, the city is experiencing the devastating impacts of climate change — frequent heatwaves, erratic rainfall patterns, and rising food and water insecurity. A lack of environmental awareness, especially among youth, coupled with limited space for recreation and nature engagement, has further widened the gap between urban communities and ecological sustainability.
In this context through our projects in Pave it Green, we:
✅ Restore ecological balance in dense urban environments.
✅ Promote biodiversity with native plants and pollinator-friendly habitats.
✅ Foster community ownership of green spaces.
✅ Provide inclusive spaces, especially for youth and women.
✅ Raise awareness on sustainability, waste management, and climate action.
